Your adventure begins with a scenic drive to the La Pavona dock, the gateway to this roadless wilderness. Here, you will board a classic riverboat for an unforgettable journey down the winding channels. As you cruise toward Tortuguero, keep your eyes open for early wildlife sightings along the riverbanks, from sunbathing iguanas to water birds. (Please note: Round-trip boat tickets from Pavona to Tortuguero and back are fully included in your package).

Afternoon: Discover the Charming Eco-Village

DAY 2: The Ultimate Tortuguero Experience
Today is fully dedicated to exploring Tortuguero’s incredible biodiversity. This comprehensive program is split into three unique phases, allowing you to discover this magical ecosystem from sunrise to long after sunset:

Part 1: Canoe Tour Through the Jungle Canals (Morning)
Start your morning gliding through Tortuguero’s waterways by canoe. This is one of the most peaceful ways to experience the national park, especially early in the day when the canals are calm and wildlife activity is often higher. Your guide will help you look for movement along the water, in the trees, and near the vegetation. Possible sightings may include birds, caimans, iguanas, monkeys, river turtles, and other wildlife, depending on the day.

Part 2: Jaguar Trail Walk (Mid-Day)
Later, explore Tortuguero on foot along the Jaguar Trail. This trail gives you a different perspective of the rainforest, with coastal vegetation, jungle sounds, tracks, plants, and wildlife signs that are easier to notice when walking slowly with a guide. The trail is named after the jaguar, one of the most important predators in the region. Sightings are extremely rare, but the trail helps visitors understand the rainforest habitat and the connection between the forest, beach, and wildlife.

Part 3: Night Walk in the Jungle OR Moonlight Turtle Nesting Experience (Night)
Depending on the season of your travel, your evening adventure will feature one of these two incredible nocturnal experiences:

Standard Option: Night Walk in the Jungle
After sunset, Tortuguero changes completely. The forest becomes louder, cooler, and more active with small nocturnal life. During the Night Walk, your guide will help you look for frogs, spiders, insects, snakes, reptiles, glowing fungi, and other creatures that are easier to find after dark. This is a slower and more detailed walk. The goal is not to rush, but to observe the small hidden world that most visitors miss during the day.

Turtle Season Premium Option (July – October): Moonlight Turtle Nesting Experience
During the nesting season, the traditional night walk transforms into one of the most unforgettable wildlife encounters on Earth. Tortuguero’s protected beaches become the stage for a deeply moving natural event: giant sea turtles returning from the ocean to lay their eggs under the night sky. Guided by certified local experts, this highly regulated, quiet, and respectful experience allows you to witness a delicate natural phenomenon that has played out on these shores for generations.
